Tigers sign Guillen to 4 year, $48 million extension
Shortstop Carlos Guillen, who would have been eligible for free agency after this season, signed a four-year, $48 million contract today to remain with the Tigers.
The announcement was made during the Tigers’ 6-2 victory over the New York Yankees.
The Tigers had negotiated with Guillen’s agent, Peter Greenberg, since shortly before Christmas. Guillen initially asked for a five-year contract.
The Tigers offered three years and a vesting option. The sides then came to an agreement on Wednesday, and Guillen passed his physical this morning.
