Tigers 6, Angels 11 (7/27/07)
Nate Robertson might have saved the Tigers pitching staff Friday night. He could not salvage the game.
For just under four innings, Robertson looked like the dominant starter he has wanted to be for the Tigers since coming back from the disabled list nearly a month ago, and has been on occasion. He was working ahead in counts, finishing off hitters, and generally overmatching an Angels lineup that has roughed him up often over the course of his career.
“He kept fighting,” left fielder Craig Monroe said. “That kind of pumps you up.”
Those innings, however, came after the Angels scored eight runs in the first two frames. That loomed as the difference following a Detroit comeback bid, sending the Tigers to their fourth loss in their last five games with an 11-6 defeat at Angel Stadium.
