Tigers 4, Angels 13 (7/29/07)
As Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Sunday afternoon, “We’ve got some real good challenges for our team and our character and our stomach.”
He said that before Sunday night’s 13-4 loss to the Angels, which wasn’t much easier on the stomach.
“Sometimes, it’s just not your day,” Leyland said afterward. “That pretty much sums it up.”
The Tigers hadn’t given up double-digit runs to the same team on three consecutive days since their Major League-worst pitching staff did it in 1996. The last place they were expected to do it again was a series that was billed as a playoff preview. The Tigers didn’t seem to buy into the preview idea, not when they still have a playoff race looming with two months to go.
