Ryan Raburn’s career day was very nearly spent on the bench.
An hour and a half before the first pitch of Wednesday night’s game, the reserve was hanging out with his teammates, getting ready to watch the game from the sidelines. But then, Tigers manager Jim Leyland decided to scratch Gary Sheffield and his sore shoulder from the lineup. It was probably the best decision the Detroit skipper made all day.
Raburn homered twice and drove in seven runs to help the Tigers overcome a shaky starting performance from Kenny Rogers and capture a 13-9 victory over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
