The Tigers and Indians left town following their first series of the season in much the same situation as they entered, a game apart from each other at the bottom of the American League Central standings. Their respective staff aces, meanwhile, are 1-2 in the AL in earned runs allowed.
One night after the Tigers roughed up reigning AL Cy Young award winner C.C. Sabathia, it was Justin Verlander’s turn to wonder how the first three weeks of the season have gotten away from him. The numbers weren’t nearly as dramatic for Verlander in Thursday’s 11-1 Tigers loss as they were for Sabathia on Wednesday, but the frustration was about the same.
