Pudge, Polanco honored for gloves

Only a few weeks ago, the Tigers were debating whether Pudge Rodriguez should return to the team next season — in part because his diminished defense.

On Tuesday, Rodriguez won a Gold Glove as the American League’s best defensive catcher. He was joined on the elite list by second baseman Placido Polanco, who became the first Tigers second baseman to win a Gold Glove since Lou Whitaker in 1985.

Rodriguez’s Gold Glove is his 13th, adding another dash of luster to a Hall of Fame-bound player who has won the award more than any catcher in history (Cincinnati’s Johnny Bench is next with 10).
