Jones wants to be a Tiger

Todd Jones is interested in pitching for the Tigers in 2008.
The Tigers closer said Monday that he will not insist on a multi-year deal when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season — a concession that could put him squarely in the Tigers’ plans as they begin contemplating their 2008 roster.
Jones, who has 75 saves for the Tigers in the past two seasons, will turn 40 next April but is likely to be pursued by the Tigers as they secure next season’s bullpen. Jones could continue in his ninth-inning closer’s role, if he is signed, or function in a mixed role as Detroit grooms hard-throwing Joel Zumaya to be the next closer.
