Dombrowski regrets trading Jurrjens for Renteria

One mistake that Dombrowski acknowledged was trading pitching prospect Jair Jurrjens to Atlanta for shortstop Edgar Renteria. While the Tigers were trying desperately to find starting pitching, Jurrjens went 13-10 for the Braves with a 3.68 ERA.
“We thought at the time that Renteria would be a difference maker for us at shortstop - the player that could put us over the hump,” Dombrowski said. “There’s no question - that was a miscalculation. I wish I had Jurrjens back, but we knew we were giving up a good player.”
