Detroit on Schilling’s short list

Schilling, who has said he wants to pitch one more season in the big leagues, filed for free agency Tuesday. On Wednesday, he posted a list of 13 clubs on his Web site that his family believes “would be a fit for next year.”

Detroit was one, but the Boston Red Sox, with whom he has now won two World Series, have remained his “first choice.”

It’s not clear if Detroit would have interest. Dave Dombrowski, the club president/general manager, has said that the team hopes to sign a veteran starter, and that re-signing left-hander Kenny Rogers would be the Tigers’ first choice.
