The Red Wings have agreed to terms on a new contract that will keep defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom in Detroit through the 2009-2010 season.

Detroit general manager Ken Holland announced the two-year deal Wednesday.

“Nick has been the best defenseman in the world for several years,” Holland said in a release. “He’s a great captain and role model who does everything right, both on and off the ice.”
