Lions won’t rule out drafting receiver

Coach Rod Marinelli is vowing not to let recent history have an impact on whether the Lions will draft wide receiver Calvin Johnson of Georgia Tech in the first round.

Many people have Johnson rated as the best prospect this year, but the Lions took a receiver on the first round three straight years, from 2003-05.

The Lions have the second pick overall and aren’t expected to take a receiver, even one as talented as Johnson. Drafting a receiver first for the fourth time in five years would leave the Lions open to criticism.
