Lions look at safeties; Moore cut

Safety Dwight Smith missed last week’s game with a sprained foot and his status was described as week to week.
The Lions either got a disappointing medical update on Smith on Monday or they’re unhappy with the play of LaMarcus Hicks, who was signed off the practice squad. Or maybe it’s just an interesting coincidence that they brought in so many safeties for workouts.
The Lions brought in five veteran free agent safeties who have a lot of NFL experience on Tuesday: Mike Doss, Stuart Schweigert, Chris Crocker, Deke Cooper and J.R. Reed. The Lions did not sign any of the free agents — yet.
By the way, the Lions have made a roster move in reaction to the high ankle sprain to rookie fullback Jerome Felton. The Lions waived veteran defensive tackle Langston Moore and signed free agent fullback Darian Barnes.
One other note — the Lions did work out yet another free agent on Tuesday — wide receiver Travis Taylor.
