NABC names Michigan State’s Draymond Green national player of the year and Tom Izzo coach of the year

Michigan State forward Draymond Green became the third player in school history to win national player of the year honors after the National Association of Basketball Coaches named him the Division I Player of the Year on Sunday.

…For Izzo, it was the eighth national coach of the year honor he received in his career. He had previously been the NABC’s national coach of the year in 2001. Last month, CBSSports.com named him national coach of the year. (MLive)

Draymond Green Named Big Ten Player Of The Year; Tom Izzo Coach Of The Year

Michigan State senior forward Draymond Green was selected Big Ten Player of the Year by the league’s media and coaches, the conference office announced Monday, March 5. Tom Izzo was selected Coach of the Year by the coaches and media.

Green was also named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team by the league’s coaches. Sophomore guard Keith Appling earned third-team all-conference honors, while freshman Branden Dawson found a spot on the All-Freshman team and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors from the league’s media.

For Izzo, it is the third Big Ten Coach of the Year honor of his career, having previously been honored in 1998 and 2009. Green is the first Spartan to earn Player of the Year honors since Kalin Lucas was honored in 2009. He is the seventh Spartan to earn Big Ten Player of the Year honors, joining Jay Vincent (1981), Scott Skiles (1986), Shawn Respert (1995), Mateen Cleaves (1998, 1999 – coaches), Morris Peterson (2000 – coaches) and Lucas (2009). (MSUSpartans.com)
