Any buzz that the Detroit Lions are interested in pursuing a deal for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel has been swiftly muted and unplugged.
It apparently rates a zero on the noise meter.
“Not a chance,” a league source with knowledge of the Lions’ interest said Thursday.
The Lions have been seeking to upgrade the cornerback position since the end of the season, and Samuel’s name has been mentioned prominently in potential trade talks. (FOX Sports Detroit)

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, the Lions may be looking to move Smith this offseason and have actually actively “shopped him to at least one team.”
It’s not clear what the Lions are looking for in return for Smith, but I would imagine they are after a draft pick in one of the later rounds. Due to the tampering charges, the Lions are without a sixth-round pick, so perhaps dealing Smith could help them make up for that fact. (Pride Of Detroit)
The Post also has learned Thomas is not expected to be a candidate for the Pistons’ vacant head-coaching job, despite a report out of Detroit. Two sources told The Post Thomas would not be considered by Pistons president Joe Dumars because Dumars does not want to jeopardize their friendship.
The New Jersey Nets’ latest attempt to acquire Denver’s Carmelo Anthony involves the Detroit Pistons.
Sources with knowledge of the talks confirmed the Nets and Nuggets have hatched a three-way trade proposal that would land Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups and Pistons guard Rip Hamilton alongside Anthony in New Jersey.
The three-way trade scenario was first reported by the Bergen Record on its website Friday night.
The proposed deal would send prized Nets rookie Derrick Favors, former All-Star guard Devin Harris and at least two first-round picks to the Nuggets in exchange for their franchise player. It was not immediately known what Detroit would receive, if this deal were to go through, beyond Troy Murphy’s expiring contract.
