Kobe Bryant nixed trade to Pistons in 2007, affecting possible Grant Hill return
The Pistons and Lakers agreed in principle on a deal but Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss, who passed away early Monday, and Bryant, who wanted out of Los Angeles but Detroit wasn’t one of his preferred destinations, passed.
A source confirmed the Pistons and Lakers agreed on a deal, which most likely included Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Amir Johnson and a future first-round pick for Bryant, who wound up being the 2007-08 MVP.
Another league source said former Piston Grant Hill, who was a free agent that summer as a member of the Orlando Magic, would’ve likely returned to the Pistons to fill Prince’s void at small forward.

An oral history of the Malice at the Palace
It was a little more than two weeks into the season, but this was a crucial game for both sides: Friday night on ESPN, their first meeting since the defending-champion Pistons had knocked Indiana out of an emotionally charged Eastern Conference finals that was best remembered for a vicious flagrant foul by Artest on Rip Hamilton in Game 6. Jermaine O’Neal and Jamaal Tinsley had played hurt in the deciding sixth game and Indiana had stewed all summer, believing it had the better team. Both sides had tinkered with their rosters — Detroit subtracting reserves Corliss Williamson, Mehmet Okur, and Mike James and adding Antonio McDyess, Carlos Delfino, and Derrick Coleman; Indiana trading Al Harrington and adding Stephen Jackson — but the bad blood persisted. Sources: Nets discussing 3-way trade for Carmelo Anthony with Nuggets, Pistons
The New Jersey Nets’ latest attempt to acquire Denver’s Carmelo Anthony involves the Detroit Pistons.
Sources with knowledge of the talks confirmed the Nets and Nuggets have hatched a three-way trade proposal that would land Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups and Pistons guard Rip Hamilton alongside Anthony in New Jersey.
The three-way trade scenario was first reported by the Bergen Record on its website Friday night.
The proposed deal would send prized Nets rookie Derrick Favors, former All-Star guard Devin Harris and at least two first-round picks to the Nuggets in exchange for their franchise player. It was not immediately known what Detroit would receive, if this deal were to go through, beyond Troy Murphy’s expiring contract.

Richard Hamilton echoes Allen Iverson on problems with ex-coach Michael Curry
Earlier this month, in an interview with ESPN.com’s Scoop Jackson, Iverson said that he was lied to about his role on multiple occasions by Curry, insisting that Curry assured him that Iverson would always be a starter after his arrival from Denver in November in a trade for Chauncey Billups.
Hamilton made the same assertions about being misled by Curry in a recent sitdown with ESPN.com, illuminating the depths of the disconnect between Curry and his veterans. The tension ultimately convinced Pistons president Joe Dumars that he had to fire Curry on July 1 after only one season, when it became apparent that Curry regaining respect in the locker room was unlikely.
