Schwartz is 29-52 over five full years, with just one playoff appearance. The Lions (7-9) lost four games in a row, and six of their last seven, to miss the playoffs for the 13th time in 14 years. (WDIV)
Though Lions coach Jim Schwartz hasn’t been one of the obvious coaches who are in danger of losing his job this next week — especially after last season, when he led the team to the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade — ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the ownership group actually is thinking about making a change.
Reportedly, the Ford family has been disturbed about the culture that has grown in Schwartz’s locker room and could use that disappointment as a reason to fire him after his fourth season on the job. (CBSSports.com)
Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz strongly denied a Sports Illustrated report that claimed tension has developed between him and general manager Martin Mayhew for taking chances on troublesome players.
Bill Keenist, the team’s senior vice president of communications, briefed Schwartz about the SI story before his media session after today’s practice.
“Bill just gave me that (report), and it couldn’t be further from the truth,” Schwartz said. “I don’t like to comment on rumors and stuff like that, particularly (from) people that aren’t in our building that don’t see us every day. It couldn’t be farther from the truth. (Detroit Free Press)
