Tigers trade Cameron Maybin to Angels for AA pitcher Victor Alcantara

The Angels acquired the 29-year-old outfielder from the Detroit Tigers on Thursday in a trade for right-hander Victor Alcantara. Los Angeles also announced it will exercise Maybin’s $9 million contract option for 2017.

Maybin batted a career-best .315 with four homers, 43 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 94 games for the Tigers last season. Despite a late start due to a broken wrist from getting hit by a pitch in spring training, he also hit .380 with runners in scoring position, one of the majors’ best marks. (ESPN)

Alcantara, 23, appeared in 29 games, including 20 starts, with Double A Arkansas in 2016 and posted a 3-7 record with a 4.30 ERA (111.0IP/53ER) and 79 strikeouts. In five minor league seasons, Alcantara has a 24-34 record with one save, a 4.60 ERA (503.1IP/257ER) and 446 strikeouts. Alcantara was selected to play in the MLB Futures Game in 2014. (CBS Local)
