A day after the Lions traded away Roy Willams, they filled his roster spot Wednesday by signing receiver John Standeford, one of their final cuts in the preseason. Standeford, 26, was a former All-Big Ten receiver at Purdue who had an impressive training camp with the Lions this fall.
The Lions also signed safety LaMarcus Hicks from the practice squad, filling the roster spot vacated when Jon Kitna was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Former Michigan State safety Travis Key was added to the Lions’ practice squad. Key, an undrafted rookie free agent, initially signed with the Minnesota Vikings in May and spent the preseason with Cleveland, but was cut from the Browns’ practice squad last week.
